David Nylund, LCSW, PhD

I have always wanted to join a collective of narrative therapist—it has finally come to fruition with Unique Outcomes! Narrative Therapy is my second love; the first being Detroit, my hometown. Early in my training I was introduced to Narrative Therapy by one of its founders—Michael White. I was immediately drawn to narrative—its commitment to non-pathologizing clients; an ethic of collaboration with clients; thinking relationally, and a focus on social justice.

I have practiced as a narrative therapist for over 30 years in many settings—community mental health; HMOs; non-profits; and private practice. My work has primarily focused on trans youth and their families, and couples therapy. I am also a Professor of Social Work at California State University Sacramento, and a faculty member of the Vancouver School for Narrative Therapy. In addition, I am a co-founder and the Clinical Director of the Gender Health Center, a grassroots agency serving trans and queer communities. I have written extensively on narrative therapy. My latest book, Queer Informed Narrative Therapy, will be out in early 2021. I am excited to be a part of Unique Outcomes.
